The first day in China is not hard if the chain is simple. The problems happen when several fragile tasks depend on each other: no data means no map, no payment means no ride, no verified passport hotel means no bed, and a tight train transfer means one delay breaks the whole plan.
Build the route in this order: data, transfer, hotel, then train. If the train is not essential on day one, sleep in the arrival city and travel the next morning.

If you connect to high-speed rail on day one, leave at least three hours between scheduled landing and train departure. Passport gates and baggage can be slower than expected.

Payment and data backup
