Buying electronics in China: tax refund, warranty and home-country checks
Electronics look attractive in China because the product selection is strong and some prices look lower. The real decision is whether the saving survives tax refund friction, warranty region, model compatibility, batteries and customs.
The purchase is only safe if the model works at home
Before paying, check language options, app region, plug type, charger, cellular bands, eSIM support, Google services, activation rules and whether the same SKU is sold in your country.
If you cannot test the exact device in store, assume after-sales support will be harder once you leave China.
Tax refund does not fix a bad electronics purchase
A refund can improve the price, but it does not solve warranty, import duty, battery transport, return or compatibility risk.
Only count the refund after you confirm the store can issue the right paperwork and your departure airport process has enough time.
When buying in China makes sense
It is more reasonable for official-brand accessories, creator tools, gimbals, small smart-home gadgets, camera accessories and products where you understand the model number and warranty limits.
