What tourists should not buy in China before flying home

The main rule

Do not judge a China purchase only by price. Judge it by whether you can legally pack it, clear airline checks, clear destination customs and still use warranty after returning home.

If the item needs explanation at security, customs or after-sales support, buy it only when the saving is large enough to justify that friction.

High-friction items

Large power banks, spare lithium batteries and drone batteries require carry-on handling and capacity checks.

Liquids, sauces, alcohol and cosmetics can be fine in checked luggage, but they are bad last-minute airport purchases if you do not know size and packing rules.

Replica luxury goods, counterfeit electronics, restricted medicine, plant or animal products can create customs risk even when sold openly in a market.

Usually safer alternatives

Choose sealed tea, packaged snacks, small cultural gifts, stationery, lightweight accessories and products with clear receipts.

For electronics, choose official stores, keep the invoice and avoid items where warranty or activation status is unclear.

Before checkout

Ask yourself: can I pack this today, prove what it is, explain it at customs, and still use it at home?

If any answer is unclear, take a photo of the product and buy later after checking airline and destination rules.
